First Glances – Le Coup du Parapluie.

“Put some colour and sound in your nightmare” say Belgium’s Le Coup du Parapluie . Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought noir wasn’t technically a colour. Yes, this band deal in dark, heavy(ish) alternative rock that takes influences from post-punk, art rock and post-rock. They call it “melodic rain”. More like a deluge. The band set up in typical power trio mode with drums, guitars and bass all vying for the alpha male position. The sound is deep and rich, slightly disturbing in a way that is more provocative than out and out frightening.

The debut full length Philosophie, bien-être et crimes passionnels (philosophy, well-being and crimes of passion) is available now. Review to follow.
