First Glances – Feral Ohms

Bay area trio Feral Ohms are drummer Chris Johnson of Drunk Horse, bassist Josh Haynes of Nudity and, on guitar and vocal duty, Ethan Miller of Comets On Fire fame and, more recently, Howlin’ Rain infamy. Making a mockery of that previous project’s sorry over-production, Feral Ohms turn in crumpled, scuzzed-up biker-psyche with fidelity to match that found in Birds Of Maya’s basement.
Miller sneers and wails like he means it too. His band are urgent and vital. And new single “Super Ape” sounds like a lost proto-metal, psyche-punk demo. It’s a head-on pile-up of feedback, 100-mph drumming and wah. Feral Ohms are yesterday, today and tomorrow and their heavy, glorious rock ‘n’ roll is a defiant return for all involved.
~“Super Ape” is out now and comes backed with a scorching cover of Pink Fairies’ “The Snake”.~
