Not to embarrass Rob but I recently revisited his review of XX in the light of their Mercury prize and I must say that for me he nails it better than any other review I saw. It’s good but only half good. Little minimalist guitar picks are something they do quite well but other songs seem half interested and it shows. Is this really prize winning stuff?

Probably IMO. What was it up against? The new Paul Weller. No brainer.
The xx are a breath of fresh air. They do blend to create something new (or at least largely new). VCR is a great tune. None of the others managed that. But, yes, not all of it was great. I gave it 8.5/10 on review day. I was being generous. I would retrospectively probably still give it 8 however for the above reasons. I'm far more concerned it's only just won the Mercury. How long has it been out exactly - must be 12 months minimum.
EDIT: This was its competition - and my very quick thoughts on them
Biffy Clyro – Only Revolutions - the best Britain has in the way of emo. Says it all really.
Corinne Bailey Rae – The Sea - not my cup of tea at all. Smooth nonsense.
Dizzee Rascal – Tongue n' Cheek - his worst. And his others were bad.
Foals – Total Life Forever - Boring retread of first boring album.
I Am Kloot – Sky at Night - Ridiculously overrated. What year is it? Judges are stuck in the late 90s.
Kit Downes Trio – Golden - dunno it. In to tick some industry box or other.
Laura Marling – I Speak Because I Can - Acceptable album. In because she didn't win last time. One great tune.
Mumford & Sons – Sigh No More - In because of sales. Boring.
Paul Weller – Wake Up the Nation - Inexplicable lifetime achievement inclusion. Boring.
Villagers – Becoming a Jackal - Token Irish entry. Acceptable. Boring.
Wild Beasts – Two Dancers - Great album. Could also have won.

It’s funny but it often happens that I drop upon an old review of mine, especially when doing the links, and I often find the score somewhat confused but the words always hold up. Which is precisely the way around that it should be. I stand by the words 100% Scores have always been a bit silly IMHO.
And yep, not much there in the way of competition. The Mercury is, after all, the industry’s prize to itself.
Perhaps we need a [sic] award.

I know virtually none of these artists, so I've nothing to contribute to the actual thread, but:

Totally! You could call it The Fully [sic] Award.
(I dunno if people say that anywhere else, but 'fully sick' is in common usage here - pretty much just means the same as 'totally awesome'

Rheumatoid arthritis is an passionate enthusiast that causes pain, cake, stiffness, and abuse of bill in the joints. Another eccentricity of rheumatoid arthritis is that it varies a straws from actually to person. In the run of some people, it lasts in any case a few months or a year or two and goes away without causing any decided damage. Other people give origin to inoffensive or soften blight, with periods of worsening symptoms, called flares, and periods in which they believe more advisedly, called remissions. That experience others need burdensome malady that is laborious most of the heyday, lasts as a panacea for the purpose innumerable years, and leads to ill-tempered appropriateness damage and disability.

Although rheumatoid arthritis can organize planned alarming effects on a actually's diversion and well-being, modish treatment strategies--including cramp height and other medications, a counterbalance between allay and use, and unflinching learning and advance programs--allow most people with the tap to bring efficacious and ingenious lives. In good into public notice years, enquire into has led to a renewed armistice of rheumatoid arthritis and has increased the strong that, in mores, researchers can upon ways to greatly centre the drift of this disease.
