First Glances – The Scholars

The Killers , White Lies , The Boxer Rebellion , Customs , The Domino State , Chapel Club , Tape The Radio ….all names that spring to mind when listening to The Scholars. Not to be confused with ‘Scholars’ or the US band of the same name, our The Scholars are an alt/Rock band from Oxfordshire who formed in 2008 around the songwriting partnership of Adrian Banks & Christian Gillett.

The bio states:

In 2010 the band gained their status of being “One of the best unsigned bands in Oxford” (Nightshift Magazine) through relentlessly gigging to a perfect standard. They are regularly played as part of the ‘BBC Introducing’ programme by being championed by BBC Oxford and Tom Robinson’s Introducing Show on BBC 6 Music.

Other success’s came with ‘This Heart’s Built To Break’ which was chosen as ‘Track Of The Week’ on Myspace Mars Planets Radio by Alex Zane and been highly recommended by Alex Baker of Kerrang! Radio.

As of November 2010, the band signed to Birmingham based Indie Label ‘Incremental Music.’ Headed by Tim Abbot (ex-director of Creation Records) and are in the process of recording a new EP with London Producer Iain Gore (STARSAILOR, COLDPLAY and MYSTERY JETS) The EP will be an attempt to put The Scholars in the position of taking things to a higher level.
